V: all at once or every month?
Take $12,000: all of it on day one, or $1,000 a month for a year. Across every starting month since 2008 (213 of them), the lump sum was ahead after 12 months in 175 (82%). That is lopsided: for V, waiting to invest has usually cost money. The best case for monthly investing was a start in May 2008, when it finished the year 40% ahead.
Worst drop
V's worst fall in this history was -42.7%, a deep bear-market fall, from May 2008 to January 2009. It was back at the old high by December 2009, only 11 months after the bottom. $1,000 invested at that peak shrank to about $573 at the low.
Visa dividends
V paid $2.68 per share over the last 12 months, quarterly. At $422.59 that is 0.63%, a small yield; nearly all of the return has come from the price. From 2020 to 2025 the yearly payout grew +14.9% a year, well ahead of inflation. The yearly total did not fall once in the last ten years. Amounts are adjusted for splits.

Visa runs the largest card payment network in the world. It does not lend money; it earns a small fee on each transaction that passes over its network, which makes its business steady and very profitable.
Visa's IPO in March 2008, in the middle of the financial crisis, was then the largest in U.S. history. It split 4-for-1 in 2015.
The shift from cash to cards and online payments has given Visa long, steady growth, and the stock has beaten the S&P 500 since it listed.
