INTC: all at once or every month?
Take $12,000: all of it on day one, or $1,000 a month for a year. Across every starting month since 1985 (491 of them), the lump sum was ahead after 12 months in 304 (62%). The lump sum won more often than not, but not by much: big swings meant the start month mattered a lot. The best case for monthly investing was a start in August 2000, when it finished the year 122% ahead.
Worst drop
INTC's worst fall in this history was -81.3%, a near wipe-out, from August 2000 to September 2002. Getting back to the old high took until March 2018: 186 months from the bottom and 17.6 years from the peak. $1,000 invested at that peak shrank to about $187 at the low.

About Intel
| Company | Intel Corporation |
| Listed | 1971 (Nasdaq) |
| Sector | Technology (semiconductors) |
| Dividend | Cut in 2023, suspended in 2024 |
Intel invented the microprocessor and dominated PC and server chips for decades. It both designs and manufactures its chips, unlike most rivals.
Intel's share price peaked in 2000 and has never returned there; even with dividends reinvested, it took until 2018 to get back. Manufacturing delays let AMD and Taiwan Semiconductor overtake it, it missed the mobile and AI booms, and in 2024 it suspended its dividend to save cash for a costly plan to rebuild its factories. In 2025 the U.S. government took a stake in the company.
Intel is a useful counterweight to the winners on this site: a famous company whose $1,000 from 2000 is worth less today than many simple index funds.
