AVGO: all at once or every month?

Take $12,000: all of it on day one, or $1,000 a month for a year. Across every starting month since 2009 (196 of them), the lump sum was ahead after 12 months in 169 (86%). That is lopsided: for AVGO, waiting to invest has usually cost money. The best case for monthly investing was a start in December 2021, when it finished the year 21% ahead.

Worst drop

AVGO's worst fall in this history was -34.5%, a deep bear-market fall, from May 2026 to November 2026. It is still below that high today, 0.5 years later. $1,000 invested at that peak shrank to about $655 at the low.

Broadcom dividends

AVGO paid $2.60 per share over the last 12 months, quarterly. At $291.53 that is 0.89%, a small yield; nearly all of the return has come from the price. From 2020 to 2025 the yearly payout grew +12.6% a year, well ahead of inflation. The yearly total did not fall once in the last ten years. Amounts are adjusted for splits.

About Broadcom

CompanyBroadcom Inc.
ListedAugust 2009 (Nasdaq, as Avago)
SectorTechnology (semiconductors)
DividendPaid since 2010

Broadcom designs chips for networking, wireless and data centers, including custom AI chips for large cloud companies, and since buying VMware in 2023 it also owns a large software business.

The company grew largely through acquisitions: Avago bought the original Broadcom in 2016 and took its name. It has paired that with a fast-growing dividend, which is unusual for a chip company.

Broadcom split its stock 10-for-1 in July 2024.
