SOXL: all at once or every month?
Take $12,000: all of it on day one, or $1,000 a month for a year. Across every starting month since 2010 (189 of them), the lump sum was ahead after 12 months in 125 (66%). The lump sum usually won, but roughly one start in 3 favored spreading it out. The best case for monthly investing was a start in December 2021, when it finished the year 278% ahead.
Worst drop
SOXL's worst fall in this history was -86.9%, a near wipe-out, from December 2021 to September 2022. Getting back to the old high took until April 2026: 43 months from the bottom and 4.3 years from the peak. $1,000 invested at that peak shrank to about $131 at the low.

SOXL dividends
SOXL paid $0.09 per share over the last 12 months, annual. At $40.87 that is 0.23%, a small yield; nearly all of the return has come from the price. From 2020 to 2025 the yearly payout grew +57.0% a year, well ahead of inflation. The yearly total fell in 2017, 2019, 2020, 2025. Fund payouts move around with what the holdings pay, so a lower year is not a cut in the usual sense. Amounts are adjusted for splits.

SOXL aims for three times the daily move of an index of U.S.-listed chip stocks. Semiconductors are already one of the most volatile parts of the market, so tripling them produces enormous swings in both directions.
Like all daily-reset leveraged funds, SOXL can lose value in a sideways market and its long-term result depends heavily on the path, not just the start and end points. Drawdowns of 80% or more have happened more than once.
