PLTR: all at once or every month?

Take $12,000: all of it on day one, or $1,000 a month for a year. Across every starting month since 2020 (63 of them), the lump sum was ahead after 12 months in 37 (59%). The lump sum won more often than not, but not by much: big swings meant the start month mattered a lot. The best case for monthly investing was a start in October 2021, when it finished the year 125% ahead.

Worst drop

PLTR's worst fall in this history was -81.8%, a near wipe-out, from January 2021 to December 2022. Getting back to the old high took until September 2024: 21 months from the bottom and 3.7 years from the peak. $1,000 invested at that peak shrank to about $182 at the low.

About Palantir

CompanyPalantir Technologies Inc.
ListedSeptember 2020 (NYSE; Nasdaq since 2024)
SectorTechnology (software)
DividendNone

Palantir builds data-analysis software for governments, militaries and large companies. Its newer AI platform for businesses has driven fast growth in commercial sales.

Palantir listed directly on the NYSE in September 2020 without a traditional IPO and moved to the Nasdaq in November 2024. Its stock fell more than 80% from its early-2021 peak by late 2022, then rose many times over as AI demand took off and it joined the S&P 500 in 2024.

With such a short history, Palantir's what-if results depend enormously on the exact start month.
